Biography

Athul Prasad is a photographer and filmmaker based in London, whose work encompasses a diverse range of genres including documentary, travel, fashion, and portraiture. Growing up in Kerala, in the southernmost part of India, Prasad aspired to use photography as an artistic medium to explore the unknown, both literally and metaphorically. His first significant project “Kushti” photographing wrestlers in India’s oldest akhada led to a two-year collaboration with Condé Nast Traveller India, redefining the magazine’s visual voice as a photo editor and photographer in residence. Since then, Prasad’s deep interest in photographing the romance of travel has led to commissions from Travel+Leisure, AD, Tatler, and campaigns for Google, Vice, and OnePlus, documenting everything from color contrasts in bacteria to photographing the Dalai Lama amongst the himalayan foothills. In his new body of work, Prasad combines innovative use of photographic techniques with physical interventions, to reflect on his deep desire to venture into the unknown and create images that portray an abstract view of the world. He also directs and produces films under the banner S17.Film.
